About the role
The Mathematics Tutor will be responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate virtual instruction across key mathematical concepts including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and advanced topics based on student level. The tutor will provide instruction in both one-on-one and small-group formats, supporting students in developing strong problem-solving abilities, logical reasoning, and confidence in mathematics. The role requires simplifying complex concepts into clear, relatable explanations while fostering a positive and interactive learning environment. This is a contract position, and compensation will be provided on a per-teaching-hour basis.
What you'll do
- Deliver structured and engaging Mathematics lessons to students ages 5–18
- Teach topics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and other level-appropriate concepts
- Break down complex mathematical ideas into simple, easy-to-understand steps
- Use interactive teaching methods, digital tools, and practice exercises to enhance learning
- Prepare lesson materials aligned with Efiko Learning’s curriculum framework
- Assess student understanding through assignments, quizzes, and guided problem-solving
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to parents on student progress
- Maintain professionalism in all student and parent interactions
- Attend occasional virtual team meetings or training sessions
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Education, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years teaching or tutoring experience (online teaching experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of core mathematical concepts across primary to secondary levels
- Experience teaching children and teenagers (ages 5–18)
- Ability to simplify complex mathematical ideas into clear, easy-to-understand explanations
- Excellent communication, patience, and classroom management skills
- Reliable internet connection and ability to teach effectively in a virtual environment
Preferred:
- Teaching certification or relevant professional qualification
- Experience preparing students for exams (e.g., WAEC, IGCSE, SAT, or similar)
- Familiarity with digital teaching tools and online learning platforms
- Curriculum development or lesson planning experience
- Possessing skills in artificial intelligence for teaching is a considerable advantage
